Unhealthy Eating Habits and Obesity

Unhealthy Eating Habits

Unhealthy eating habits are one of the most important factors contributing to the rise in obesity. Unfortunately, individuals who eat unhealthily from childhood onwards often gain a lot of weight over time and have to battle obesity. Along with overeating, a lack of physical activity causes people to become obese. Although the exact cause of obesity cannot be fully explained, it is an accepted fact by experts that unbalanced and excessive eating is a significant factor causing obesity. The consumption of excessively fatty foods, fast food, junk food, ready-made and frozen foods, fried foods, and an increase in the consumption of fruit juices and colas lead to unhealthy eating habits.

Factors Causing Obesity

Besides unhealthy eating habits, a lack of physical activity is another important factor in the development of obesity. A slow metabolism causes the calories consumed not to be burned and to be stored as fat. In addition, factors such as age, gender, education level, income status, genetic predisposition, psychological problems, alcohol, certain medications used, and hormonal imbalances also contribute to obesity.
