What are Steel Silos?

Above-Ground Concrete Silos

Steel sheet grain silos are always quite durable and can be used for a long time without wear. Also, the resistance of silos made with wooden materials against horizontal pressure is provided by steel rings placed on the outside of the wall. They are expensive structures that professional businesses might consider. Silos of this type are generally built in the form of 500-1000 ton towers, as they are forced to save space in automatically fed areas and because labor costs are high. Steel materials are used during this process. Grain silos of this type are above-ground models with a concrete base, two or three stone sides, built from durable construction materials, and generally open at the front.

What are Above-Ground Silos?

Construction costs are quite high, and it is mandatory to provide a suitable slope to the side walls during construction. At the same time, sandbags and truck tires are placed on top of the silo to prevent the silage from being exposed to air. It is recommended for small-scale businesses with very little capital. It is also known as the most widely used silo type in our country. They are the most budget-friendly, i.e., the cheapest silos, and the simplest forms of siloing. They have no costs and for this reason, they are preferred as grain silos in small-scale businesses. This is because there is no need for a fixed investment, and as businesses grow, develop, and become wealthier, they transition to more secure and larger silos. They are not used in large-scale businesses.
