Are PVC Interior Door and Window Systems Healthy?
The most common belief about PVC door and window systems is that they carry a risk of cancer. Does this risk, claimed to be put forward by industry representatives, really exist? Do PVC frames pose a risk to human health? PVC, which is present in every area of our lives from windows to doors, from floor coverings to toys, is the second most widely used plastic in the world. According to experts, PVC negatively affects human health due to the chemicals it contains. While its use, especially in food packaging, is banned in European countries, PVC is not yet banned in Turkey. The use of PVC in the packaging sector, especially in food packaging, leads to harmful components leaching into food. This situation is considered a significant health risk. The use of PVC in windows and doors, on the other hand, poses a great risk, especially in terms of fire. PVC, which does not burn easily but emits a toxic gas, can cause the death of people who are forced to inhale this gas during a fire.
