Why is a Credit Card Blocked?

Credit cards, which can be used in almost every area and make people's lives easier, are also payment tools that need to be used with great care. Credit cards provide for different needs such as depositing money, withdrawing money, making purchases, or installment purchases. On the other hand, credit cards are issued by different banks as a result of special requests from users. However, in some cases, credit cards are blocked. There are various reasons for the blocks imposed by banks.

What are the Reasons for a Credit Card Being Blocked?

The use of credit cards, which is increasing day by day in our country as well as all over the world, can be blocked for various reasons. After the blocks imposed by banks, you can reactivate your credit cards using different methods or get new cards and start using them. The main reasons for credit cards being blocked are listed as follows:

  • Entering the PIN incorrectly 3 times at the ATM.
  • The credit card debt is not paid after the payment due date has passed.
  • The credit card is blocked due to the possibility of losing, forgetting, or theft.

Blocking Process After Losing a Credit Card

This is one of the most common problems experienced by credit card holders. In case of losing or theft of credit cards, immediate action must be taken. You need to call the customer service number of the relevant bank or go directly to the bank and report that your card has been lost or stolen. After reporting, your existing credit card is immediately blocked, and even if it has fallen into someone else's hands, no transaction can be made. After the blockage, a new credit card with the same account information is delivered to the cardholder as soon as possible.

Why is a Block Applied After Entering the Credit Card PIN Incorrectly?

ATMs, which allow many different transactions, also enable us to view credit card information, withdraw money from credit cards, deposit money, or make wire transfers. The security of credit card holders is protected at the highest level in ATMs belonging to different banks. After inserting the credit card into the ATM, you need to log in with your PIN. During this process, ATMs offer three chances to enter the PIN. If the PIN is entered incorrectly for the third time, the card is automatically blocked and retained by the machine. The reason for this is the possibility that the credit card may have passed to someone other than the cardholder. To prevent any theft, a block is applied to the card after the PIN is entered incorrectly three times.
